Vanessa Butler.
Vanessa Butler’s artistic life started about the same time as her life itself. The combination of chromosomes lined up to create an extraordinarily gifted and perceptive person. In addition, the facility to render these perceptions with a flair for the unusual came as a gift to Vanessa. Interlochen, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Slade School of Fine Art in London have helped in the shaping of a conceptual base for Vanessa’s work. Vanessa has had the opportunity as a young up and coming artist to receive criticism from Carnegie Mellon University alumni and from friends as her work graced the cover of the college newsletter. This honor was bestowed on her during the first few weeks of her tenure at Carnegie Mellon University. As a student of Madison Metropolitan Schools, Vanessa has repeatedly exhibited her work in the Madison Art Center in Madison, Wisconsin. She has also exhibited her work at Interlochen Academy of Fine Arts in Michigan, as well as in local galleries. Vanessa produced her first notable work at the age of two, when she rendered a tent in her camp-site in three dimensions. In addition to her visual art, Vanessa has studied performance art and film.
